Walder Sharp provided structural engineering advice on this beautiful property on the South coast. Working with original fabric and the previous rounds of refurbishment key to our input was advising the client on the existing structural form to minimise intervention and an architectural design to cleverly adapt to our recommendations.

One area that worked exceptionally well was in the rear where to maximise floor to ceiling height in the mezzanine and to give a vaulted feel, the existing ceiling joists were retained and reused forming collars to prevent splaying to the rafters.

Given the high pitch and acute angle of the rafters, calculations enabled the collars to be set close to the ridge.
